Week 5

Premier Division

Heslerton gained a great victory over League leaders Staxton at Heslerton.

Put into bat Staxton lost opener Dave Morris without a run on the board before Chris Dove  (18) and Jodie Robson added 35 for the 2nd wicket. Dove fell caught at slip by Paul Bowes bringing Staxton’s Australian Rohan Diamond (14) to join skipper Robson (36). Both fell with the score on 70 before a break for rain reduced the match to 42 overs. The remaining 6 wickets fell for the addition of 52 more runs, Adam Spaven claiming (3-24), Dan Jeminson (3-37) and Scott Brennan (4-36) Staxton being all out for 122.

Heslerton’s reply had a similar start to the visitors losing opener Rob Middlewood with only 1 run on the board. Paul Bowes and Tony Watson (11) added 23 and when prolific Paul Bowes (20) fell with the score on 33 the match was balanced. The home team’s Australian Scott Brennan batted well for his (24) and a 45 run 5th wicket partnership between Sam Triffitt (24) and Tom Benthall (23) left Heslerton on 109-5 and firm favourites. Three quick wickets left the match on a knife edge at 120-8 but the winning runs followed in the 39th over leaving the home team victorious by 2 wickets
